The Maid
Romance
Page 1
Sunlight streamed through the grand windows, casting warm golden hues on the polished marble floors. Crystal chandeliers adorned with delicate patterns illuminated the vast space, turning the mansion into a gilded palace that spoke of luxury and refinement.
As Thembi meticulously dusted the ornate furniture, her ebony skin glowed in the soft glow of the chandeliers. Dressed in a perfectly pressed maid's uniform, her nimble fingers worked with precision, ensuring every surface gleamed under her careful attention. She moved gracefully, a picture of efficiency and dedication.
In the midst of her meticulous duties, Thembi couldn't escape the magnetic pull of Olivier Zwane's presence. He was a man of unparalleled charisma, whose mere existence had the power to set her heart aflutter. Tall and broad-shouldered, Olivier carried an air of sophistication that matched the grandeur of his mansion. His ebony skin complemented his neatly trimmed beard, and his eyes sparkled with a mixture of intelligence and charm.
Thembi had known Olivier for years, having worked in his household since she was a young woman. Yet, the chemistry between them had always been as elusive as the gentle sea breeze that whispered through the mansion's open windows. Olivier's commanding presence made her intentionally avoid him, afraid that the depth of her feelings would betray her. She reveled in the clandestine glances and stolen moments, yearning for more but never daring to express her true emotions.
Today, as Thembi polished the grand piano in the mansion's music room, she could hear the distant melodies of a piano concerto playing softly. The strains of the music only intensified the swirl of emotions within her. As she leaned over to adjust a crystal vase filled with freshly cut flowers, she caught a glimpse of Olivier moving gracefully through the hallways.
Their eyes met briefly, sending a shiver down Thembi's spine. She quickly averted her gaze, her cheeks tinged with a delicate shade of pink. Olivier's voice, deep and resonant, reached her ears as he engaged in conversation with someone in the adjacent room. She strained to listen, her curiosity piqued.
"Thembi," he called, his voice cutting through the air like a melody, "have you seen the document I left on my desk?"
Thembi's heart skipped a beat as she turned to face him. "No, Mr. Zwane, I haven't been in your study today."
A flicker of disappointment passed over Olivier's face, but he quickly masked it with a charming smile. "No matter, I must have misplaced it. Do let me know if you come across it, won't you?"
Thembi nodded, her voice caught in her throat as she watched Olivier disappear down the corridor.
